The cottages are set in an acre of grounds with views to the mountains and across countryside to the sea and Mizen Head.

Situated between the popular harbour village of Baltimore, with regular ferry services to Sherkin Island and Cape Clear; and Loch Ine (Lough Hyne), Ireland's first marine nature reserve.

The Gardens

 Take time out to relax in the gardens at Ballymacrown Homestead. Sit in the Rose Garden and enjoy the views to the mountains  of West Cork. Follow the maze through the  natural wild flower meadow and identify the  numerous species of grasses, flowers and butterflies. Or  just relax in the orchard, enjoy a BBQ and watch the antics  of our resident chickens. Each cottage has its own back garden. Behind the Croft is a south facing perennial fruit & veg garden with raised beds of rhubarb, whilst behind the Gallery cottage is a herb garden. The homestead is bordered by fuchsia hedges and montbrecia -  native species of West Cork. At harvest time visitors enjoy vegetables from the garden and greenhouses.

Ballymacrown Homestead

 Whale watching in West Cork

The waters of West Cork are home to dolphins, seals and porpoises. Whales are regular visitors, with Minke whales arriving in April, Fin whales in the summer months and Humpback whales in September.

What's Included?

You may be self catering but at Ballymacrown Homestead that doesn't mean you will have to bring “everything but the kitchen sink” with you on your holiday to West Cork. In the menu bar is a list of the equipment,eco-products, welcome pack items and the little extras that should make your stay in West Cork more enjoyable. 

Supporting Tree Planting & Wild Flowers

Reduce your carbon footprint and plant a tree.

Every year at Ballymacrown Homestead we try to plant at least 50 trees. To help us achieve our goal we offer our guests a free young sapling to take home and plant.

 If you don't have room for a tree there's a free packet of native wildflower seeds instead (UK or Irish wildflowers depending on where you live).

The choice of trees for 2012 includes: Paper Birch, Bird Cherry, Elder, Crab Apple or Guelder Rose. 

The trees and wildflowers were chosen for the variety of birds, butterflies and bees they support and in the case of the cherry, crab apple and elder their fruits for making jams, jellies and elderflower champayne & wine.

West Cork Garden Trail

For garden lovers West Cork offers an annual garden trail, giving access to West Cork's best gardens. Many of the gardens are open throughout the season and include Stately homes, Island retreats and beautiful country gardens, others are only available during the West Cork garden trail weeks.
